Romanian politicians should follow a peaceful democratic process without "threats of violence and intimidation" to the citizens of the country, said the head of the press service of the US State Department, Matthew Miller, commenting on the cancellation of the results of the first round of presidential elections in Romania.
In his statement, Miller reaffirmed Washington's confidence in Bucharest's compliance with democratic processes, including the investigation of alleged "malicious foreign influence."
"The United States stands with the Romanian people as they face an unprecedented situation regarding the integrity of their elections," said the head of the US State Department press service.
Miller emphasized that the Romanian people must have confidence that the elections reflect the democratic will and are free from "malicious foreign influences" aimed at undermining the integrity of the elections.
