Later, after Yoon Seok-yeol promised to reverse his decision, the cabinet backed him, all in less than 6 hours. Martial law has not been imposed in South Korea for 45 years.
The president justified his decision to introduce martial law by the fact that the opposition, which is the majority in the parliament, paralyzes the work of the executive power, trying to impeach its representatives, including the key figures of the government.
