Lithuania will grant political asylum to Georgian President Zurabishvili

The Lithuanian authorities are ready to provide political asylum to the President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili if necessary, Asta Skysgirite, the senior advisor to the President of the Baltic Republic, stated, reports Sputnik Georgia.

Earlier, the head of Georgia announced that he would not resign from his position, despite the end of his term of office in mid-December. He noted that he will remain president until a new parliament is elected. According to him, the results of the last elections in Georgia are "illegitimate".

At the same time, Skysgirite noted that Lithuania will satisfy the Georgian leader's possible application for political asylum.

"It is natural that Lithuania will provide asylum if such a need arises," Lithuanian media reported his words.

At the same time, the adviser of the head of Lithuania noted that no such request has been received at the moment.

"At this moment, President Zurabishvili has very clearly said that he will stand by his people in Tbilisi," Skysgiritte said.
