Turkey has announced the possibility of Erdogan running for a third term

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan may be nominated for the third time as head of state if the parliament decides to hold early elections in the second half of 2027. Mehmet Uchum, the senior adviser of the Turkish leader, expressed a similar opinion.

"According to the Constitution, if the Parliament decides to hold extraordinary elections, then the President can be a candidate again, according to Article 116/3 of the Constitution. ", Uchum wrote in X.

Erdogan's second presidential term expires in 2028, after which, according to the law, the politician cannot run again, as he has held this position for two consecutive terms. At the same time, the country regularly activates the discussions about the extraordinary elections, the possibility of which the leadership of the country has not confirmed yet.
