"Armed groups have established control over more than 40% of the western districts of the city of Aleppo in the north of Syria," the report said.
As we reported earlier, the Syrian authorities closed the airport of Aleppo on Saturday, as well as all the roads leading to the city.
Russia, one of Assad's key allies, has promised Damascus additional military aid to disrupt the Islamists, two military sources said, adding that the new equipment would arrive in the next 72 hours.
