The Syrian authorities have closed the airport of Aleppo and all the roads leading to the city. Reuters:

Syrian authorities closed Aleppo's airport on Saturday, as well as all roads leading to the city, reports said.Reuters:the

Russia, one of Assad's key allies, has promised Damascus additional military aid to disrupt the Islamists, two military sources said, adding that the new equipment would arrive in the next 72 hours. The Syrian army has been ordered to carry out a "safe withdrawal" from key areas of the city where the Islamists have invaded.

Earlier, it became known that the pro-Turkish Islamist groups fighting against Bashar al-Assad's government forces launched a surprise attack in northwestern Syria.

Fighting also resumed near the city of Saraqib in Idlib province. The insurgency is led by the radical group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, which split from al-Qaeda in 2017.
