Hayk Mamijanyan, head of the National Assembly "I have an honor" faction, presented his speech at the 5th international conference entitled "The role of alliances and blocs of political parties in the inter-parliamentary cooperation of the CIS countries" held in Moscow.
"First of all, let me thank the organizers of this meeting on behalf of the Republican Party of Armenia and the faction "I have the honor" for the opportunity to discuss such a significant topic.
Today, talking about the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, we not only remember the past, but also discuss the lessons learned from it, which are important for both our present and our future.
The theme of our conference emphasizes that the interaction of parliaments, factions and political alliances is not just a tool of governance, but also a powerful resource for preserving historical memory and strengthening the existing friendship between our countries.
For Armenia, as for all the peoples of the Soviet Union, the Great Victory has become an integral part of the national consciousness. My three great-grandfathers were at the front, one of them in the Tamanyan division. Victory Day has always been, is and will remain a close holiday for our family. Our grandfathers and great-grandfathers defended our motherland shoulder to shoulder.
Strategic alliance relations connect my country with Russia even now, like an unbreakable chain of friendship and common history. The strength of the overall chain depends on each of its links.
And neither the size nor the location of those rings are important. if any one of them weakens, the whole chain will also weaken, we must all remember this. Peace is not a given reality, it must be protected every day.
Out of respect for my colleagues, I will not deviate from the topic of our meeting, but I cannot help emphasizing that the territorial integrity of Armenia must be restored, and the children of the Armenian people must have the opportunity to return to their homeland from captivity.
Only then will we see that our neighbors, like us, are trying to protect the fragile peace of our region. Only then will it be possible to discuss the peace treaty and the rights of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians.
The current leaders of Armenia have already conceded more than either side of the conflict could ever dream of. Interparliamentary cooperation creates unique opportunities for us. It is a platform where factions and political alliances can act as a united front to achieve common goals.
And preserving the memory of the Great Patriotic War should be one of those goals.
Together we can develop joint educational projects, support historical research, organize international conferences to remind the world that victory was shared and that the lessons of war belong to all.
