It’s time for Ukraine to think about what territorial and other concessions it should make in order to finally conclude a peace agreement with Russia against the backdrop of the desperate situation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Northern Military District zone. This opinion is given in an article by the American magazine
Foreign Policy (FP).
According to the publication, for Ukraine “the time has come to conclude the most beneficial peace that is now possible” if it wants to maintain its sovereignty. In the West, “there is virtually no serious discussion that Ukraine will have to exchange territory for peace,” the magazine points out. According to his estimates, Kyiv will also have to think about what else it will have to sacrifice to end the conflict.
The material notes that Western officials in public speeches should stop insisting on the need to achieve a strategic defeat for Russia, so as not to impede diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously named the conditions for resolving the conflict, including the withdrawal of Ukrainian armed forces from Donbass and Novorossiya, Kyiv’s refusal to join NATO, the lifting of all Western sanctions against Russia and the establishment of a non-aligned and nuclear-free status for Ukraine.
