Moscow has repeatedly emphasized the confrontational nature of the EU mission's paramilitary presence in Armenia. Zakharova

Russia has repeatedly publicly emphasized the confrontational nature of the paramilitary presence of the European Union mission in Armenia, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated during a briefing. Referring to the statement of Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin the other day, that the EU observers in Armenia are engaged in espionage, Zakharova noted that the evidence are not needed to understand the "anti-Russian, anti-Azerbaijani and anti-Iranian objectives of the mission".  "Besides destabilizing the political situation and turning the region once again into a center of geopolitical competition, we should not expect anything from similar initiatives of the EU," said Zakharova. According to her, the possibilities of development of humanitarian contacts, economy, infrastructure, communications and the establishment of stability are greatly harmed in this way. The spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry once again reminded Moscow's position: regional issues should be settled by the countries of the region.
