These are the first fruits of the liberalization of the electricity market in Armenia. Vahe Davtyan

Energy security expert, Ph.D., professor Vahe Davtyan's telegramthe post.

"Among the countries that import electricity from Georgia, Armenia took the second place. 2024 During 9 months, the volume of supplies from Georgia was 1 billion kWh, which is 28.8% less compared to the same period last year.

At the same time, the export income decreased by 48.8%, making 49 million dollars. During the mentioned period, the average export price decreased by 28.1% and amounted to 0.047 dollars per kWh. The main part of the electricity was exported to Turkey (82.8%), and the rest was distributed between Armenia (13.1%), Azerbaijan (4%) and Russia (0.1%).

These are the first fruits of the liberalization of the electricity market in Armenia.Increasing imports against the background of a decrease in exports. Many licensed private traders in the conditions of reduction of the state's participation in market regulation.

And this despite the fact that until 2010-2011 Armenia has a strong position in the electricity market of Georgia.

This picture is exacerbated by the lack of any progress in the construction of a new power line between Armenia and Georgia within the framework of the North-South electricity corridor.
