Severe heat has killed more than 50 people in India


More than 50 people have died due to severe heat in India during the last three days. According to "Armenpress", the BBC reports about this. 33 people died in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. Among them are also the people involved in the general elections held in the country: employees of the polling stations, security officers, members of the sanitary staff. The government has promised to provide monetary compensation of 18,000 US dollars to the families of the dead participants of the electoral process. Due to the heat, 20 people have died in the state of Odisha. In turn, the Federal Ministry of Health has announced that at least between March 1 and May 30 56 people died due to heat stroke. The total number of people suffering from heatstroke is around 25,000. However, according to the BBC, data from different parts of the country indicate that the number of people who have died from the heat may be much higher. In addition to the 20 deaths confirmed in Odisha, according to local authorities, it is possible that in another 99 cases the cause of death was the heat. In the northern and central parts of India, there has been severe heat in the last two weeks. the air temperature varies between 45-46 degrees Celsius, sometimes reaching 50 degrees. The meteorological department of the country announced that the temperature may decrease in the coming days due to the forecasted monsoon.
