The Zhoghovurd daily writes: “According to the information of the Zhoghovurd daily, the authorities continue to discuss the issue of the candidacy of the new Armenian Ambassador to Russia.
Let us recall that Nikol Pashinyan recalled the Armenian Ambassador to Russia Gurgen Arsenyan. The decision is conditioned in government circles by the fact that Arsenyan’s work has not met expectations, particularly in the direction of Armenian-Russian relations. Meanwhile, Pashinyan’s personal efforts to improve them have not yet yielded results, therefore, the ambassador’s work is nothing in that regard. According to our sources, among the candidates for the new ambassador, Nikol Pashinyan also considered the former Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan. However, the latter categorically refused the offer to go to Moscow and assume the post of ambassador.
At the moment, the search for a new ambassador is ongoing. According to government sources in the "Zhoghovurd" daily, Pashinyan wants to send to Moscow not just a diplomat, but a person from the political team who will be able to work effectively with the Russian side at different levels and, if necessary, resolve issues arising in Yerevan-Moscow relations. The issue is even more relevant in light of Nikol Pashinyan's upcoming visit to Moscow.
The Prime Minister has already announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited him to Moscow, where regional processes and Armenia's relations with the European Union will also be discussed. It is not yet known who will ultimately take over the post of Armenia's ambassador to Russia.
