A necklace adorned with 673 diamonds worth almost $4.3 million and belonging to Queen Nazli Sabri of Egypt has been stolen from the Vienna Museum of Applied Arts (MAK), DPA news agency reported.
According to the agency, the necklace was part of an exhibition featuring more than 300 pieces of jewelry from the collection of the French jewelry house Van Cleef & Arpels. According to the agency, two unknown men broke the glass showcase during the museum’s working hours, took the exhibit, and fled. Police have launched an investigation and are searching for the suspects.
According to information posted on the MAK website, the total weight of the 673 diamonds in the stolen necklace exceeds 200 carats. In 2015, the necklace was sold at a Sotheby's auction in New York for almost $4.3 million.
