A new tool, findphone, has been created for Mac, which allows you to find a lost iPhone nearby without the "Locator" (Find My) service.
The app uses the Bluetooth signal strength: the closer the phone is, the faster the beeps sound. If the device is at the other end of the room, the sounds are rare, and when you get closer to the iPhone, they turn into almost constant sound.
However, the tool has limitations. the phone must be turned on and within Bluetooth range. It does not show the location on the map, but it can help to quickly find, for example, a smartphone lost between pillows.
