Between June 15 and July 7, the World Wide Fund for Nature Armenia carried out counting of Bezoar goats in "Khosrov Forest" State Reserve, "Zangezur" Biosphere Complex" in specially protected areas of nature operating under SNOG, including "Arevik" National Park, "Zangezur" and "Khustup" state reserves. in "Arpa" protected landscape and "Hayantar" SNOC Kapan forestry branch. This is reported by the Ministry of Education.
The process of counting Bezoar goats was carried out in the south of Armenia within the framework of the "Leopard Conservation in Armenia" project. Specialists of the above-mentioned organizations also participated in the counting process.
The purpose of the calculations was to record the number of females and children of Bezoar goats, as well as their ratio, in pre-selected census sites. The obtained data will be summarized and compared with the results of the next census planned for November-December 2026 at the same sites, giving an opportunity to assess the changes in the Bezoar goat population in the Leopard habitats.
Since 2002, WWF Armenia in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment has been implementing the "Leopard Conservation in Armenia" project, which includes monitoring of leopards and their prey species. The project is funded by WWF Germany and WWF Switzerland.
