Armen Ashotyan's case claims to become one of the biggest political farces in the history of newly independent Armenia.
Naira Zohrabyan, former deputy of the RA National Assembly, president of the "Democracy and Security" NGO, told journalists about this today before the court session in the Armen Ashotyan case.
"It was absurd that yesterday the newly appointed Minister of Justice started his entry into that position with a shameless lie saying that there are no political prisoners in Armenia. The EPP has repeatedly noted the presence of political prisoners in RA in its resolutions. Even Freedom House recorded that the courts in Armenia are not independent and are affected by corruption. Even Hovik Aghazaryan, the unofficial spokesman of this government, said in a debate with Kyaramyan that detention is used as a means of pressure, a tool to suppress testimony," Zohrabyan noted.
He mentioned that Ashotyan, in his opinion, is the number 1 political prisoner.
"This case is so funny that in the future I will propose that this case be included in the textbooks of jurisprudence on how criminal cases are sewn with white threads," said Zohrabyan.
