Taxi drivers blocked the center of Beirut and the main highway near the southern entrance to the Lebanese capital, protesting against the increase in gasoline prices, RIA Novosti correspondent reports.
The previous day, the government approved a 300,000 Lebanese pound (about $3.50) increase in the price of 20 liters of gasoline, as well as a 1% increase in value added tax.
After the introduction of new prices, the price of 95 octane gasoline in Lebanon was approximately $1 per liter. Several taxis blocked the ring bridge in central Beirut on Tuesday morning, causing traffic jams for kilometers in the city. Another group of protesters blocked Beirut's exit to the Khalde region, the main highway connecting the south of the country with the capital, with their cars.
