The Mother See of St. Etchmiadzin strongly condemns and expresses deep indignation by the Prosecutor's Office of RA to H.E. Regarding the fact of initiating criminal prosecution against the Second Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin and banning His Holiness from leaving Armenia.
"These actions against the Patriarch of All Armenians are groundless and illegal and have a marked political nature. With this obviously unconstitutional and illegal attitude of interfering in the internal life of the Church, the government is hindering the pontifical activities of His Holiness.
All this is also a disrespectful attitude towards millions of believers and the centuries-old structure that was and remains the unshakable pillar of Armenian statehood. The Holy Mother See of Etchmiadzin calls for an immediate review of the illegal decisions made against the Armenian patriarch, six bishops and the secretary of the Supreme Spiritual Council, which divides our society and degrades the credit and authority of the native state," said the statement issued by the Mother See.
