The day of the NA elections is known. when will the campaign start, when and when can coalitions be formed?

Yesterday RA President Vahagn Khachaturyan signed the decree, according to which the regular elections of the National Assembly will be held on June 7 of this year.

According to the regulations of the Electoral Code, the parties participating in the NA elections submit the documents for registration to the Central Electoral Commission no earlier than 55, and no later than 45 days before the voting day, until 18:00. In this case, it is the period between April 13-23. After that, in a 10-day period (from April 23 to May 3), the electoral lists of the parties participating in the elections will be registered. And the actual campaign will start 7 days after the registration of the party lists, on May 11, and will last until June 5 inclusive.

It should be noted that the minimum threshold for parties participating in the elections is 4 percent. If in the case of parties, the threshold is reduced from 5% to 4%, then in the case of an alliance, it increases from 7% to 8%, and in the case of an alliance of three parties, the threshold will be 9%, and in the case of an alliance of 4 or more parties, it will be 10%. There must be at least 3 political forces in the newly elected parliament. If it turns out that only two parties overcome the minimum threshold, then the force that took the third place will also participate in the distribution of mandates, regardless of whether it did not overcome the minimum threshold.

Let us remind you that this is what happened during the 2021 elections, when the "I have honor" alliance did not overcome the 7 percent threshold for alliances, but since it is a mandatory condition that there must be at least 3 forces in the National Assembly, "I have honor" participated in the distribution of mandates and received 7 mandates. When the distribution of mandates among the forces that passed the minimum threshold is already completed, none of the forces that passed the parliament has a majority (50 percent + one votes), then within a 6-day period after that those forces can form a political coalition with each other, if the amount of votes cast in their favor is sufficient to obtain the majority of the total number of mandates, and they have reached an agreement on the candidate for the Prime Minister. If it is not possible to form a coalition, then the second round of the National Assembly elections takes place.

The two political forces for which the largest number of voters voted participate in the second round.
