Great Britain has sent Typhoon fighter jets to Qatar against the background of tensions in the region, at the request of the Qatari authorities, reports the British Ministry of Defence.

"The 12th British-Qatar joint fighter squadron, with Typhoon fighters, has been deployed to the Persian Gulf due to tensions in the region (the squadron) has been deployed at the request of the Qatari government for defensive purposes," the military department said in a statement.
