France has warned the US of "crossing red lines" in annexing Greenland

Any attempt by the US to seize Greenland would be "crossing a red line" for the EU and jeopardize economic cooperation between Brussels and Washington, French Finance Minister Roland Lescure told the Financial Times (FT).

"Greenland is a sovereign part of a sovereign country that is part of the EU. This is not something to be played with," he added. The minister stressed that he has already warned his American colleague Scott Besant about the negative consequences of a possible US decision.

Lescure noted that if the US imposes sanctions against the EU in light of the possible seizure of the island, the European Union will have to adapt to it.
