The US is suspending visas for citizens of 75 countries

The United States is suspending visa applications for citizens of 75 countries, including Russia, Fox News reported on Wednesday, citing a State Department document.

"The State Department is suspending the processing of visa applications for 75 countries in an effort to tighten its control over applicants who are at high risk of becoming a public burden," the TV channel reported.

"The measures will take effect on January 21 and will remain in effect indefinitely," Fox News reported.

According to the report, a State Department document states that employees can now opt out of considering applications "while the department reviews its vetting and selection procedures."

The list of countries includes, among others, Russia, Somalia, Afghanistan, Brazil, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Nigeria, Thailand and Yemen.
