Niger's Council of Ministers, headed by President Abdurrahmane Chiani, approved the draft decree on general mobilization, Actu Niger news portal reports.
"The decree is dictated by the need to preserve the integrity of the national territory, sovereignty and to protect the vital interests of the population, institutions and the state from any internal or external threat," the publication quotes excerpts from the resolution.
It defines the order of organization, preparation and conduct of the general mobilization.
The draft decree states that every citizen is obliged to observe the provisions and measures related to general conscription, including to respond promptly to conscription orders. It also provides for the possibility of confiscation of material means and vehicles for the needs of the army.
To enter into force, the decree must be signed by the head of state and published in the official gazette of the Republic of Niger.
