A slight increase in solar flare activity is possible due to the increased surface area of sunspots, but this will not have a significant impact on space weather. This was announced by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"Over the past 24 hours, there has been a gradual increase in the surface of sunspots, which may lead to some increase in flare activity today. The most significant groups of sunspots are currently concentrated on the right (eastern) side of the Sun, from where they have little effect on Earth. "Overall, despite the increasing trend, the rate of solar flares remains low and has no discernible effect on space weather," the report states.
