Macron announced the final decision to build a new aircraft carrier

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced the final approval of a project to build a new aircraft carrier, which is expected to replace the Charles de Gaulle, the only similar ship in the French Navy.

He announced this during his speech before the French servicemen at the United Arab Emirates (UAE) military base. "In the age of predators, we need to be strong, especially strong at sea, to be feared.

This is why, in accordance with two recent military planning laws and after careful and comprehensive analysis, I have decided to arm France with a new aircraft carrier. The decision to launch this large-scale program was made this week," the head of state said.

Macron clarified that 800 companies will participate in its construction. The president himself plans to visit the shipyard where the new ship will be laid in February 2026.

According to media reports, this is the Saint-Nazaire shipyard in western France.
