German economists believe that the EU should not expect the repayment of the 90 billion euro loan intended for Ukraine. Die Welt newspaper reports this with reference to experts.
"It makes no sense to assume that Ukraine will be able to repay the loan later," Clemens Fuest, head of the Ifo Economic Research Institute, told the publication.
In this regard, he believes that in the medium term, the debt service should be carried out by reducing the costs in other areas of the EU budget. "The priorities in Europe have changed, and this should be reflected in the EU budget," the head of Ifo noted.
Friedrich Heinemann, an expert from the Center for European Economic Research in Mannheim, has a similar opinion. "In any scenario, it is unlikely that Ukraine will repay the loan," he noted.
