The State Revenue Committee continues its relentless fight against the illegal transportation of narcotics and psychoactive substances across the border of the Republic of Armenia.
The other day, at the "Agarak" border checkpoint, at the land crossing points of the state border, the employees of the customs service and control department subjected to customs inspection the truck and the trailer that arrived in RA from the Republic of Iran using x-ray equipment. As a result, suspicions arose that there is a secret compartment in the front part of the truck trailer operated by a citizen of the Republic of Turkey. The information was transferred to the employees of the anti-smuggling department of the RA SRC, after which the inspection of the truck and the trailer was carried out using technical means together with the employees of the customs service and control department at the land crossing points of the state border.
As a result of the customs inspection, 322 black packages wrapped with a transparent self-adhesive tape, filled with "heroin" drug, with a total weight of 161 kilograms, were found in the previously prepared secret compartment of the trailer of the mentioned truck.
A.A., a citizen of the Republic of Turkey, was arrested on the basis of a reasonable suspicion that he had committed drug smuggling, and was presented to the Syunik Regional Investigation Department of the RA Investigative Committee.
The citizen of Turkey was arrested as part of the criminal proceedings initiated in the Syunik Regional Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee regarding the incident. The preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings was transferred to the department of investigation of crimes against human trafficking, sexual integrity of minors and illegal drug trafficking of the RA Investigative Committee. As part of the criminal proceedings, on the basis of the corresponding decision of the court, detention was chosen against him as a preventive measure.
As a result of operative-investigative measures undertaken by the anti-smuggling department of the SRC of the RA, it was found that the mentioned 161 kilograms of "heroin" drug was supposed to be transported to Georgia by truck through the territory of the Republic of Armenia.
At present, SRC customs officers and the staff of the Investigative Committee are undertaking large-scale investigative and operational-investigative measures in order to find out the identity of the persons organizing the transportation of narcotics through the territory of the Republic of Armenia.
Notice: the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia by a legally binding court verdict.
