The trial on corruption charges against the former mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu, is scheduled to begin on March 9, 2026 and may last 12 years and six months, reports "Jumhuriyet" newspaper.
There are 105 defendants in the case, of which more than 400 are testifying as witnesses. The publication notes that the trial is expected to last 4,600 days.
The trial will take place in the prison area of Silivri district of Istanbul, where Imamoglu is kept. Previously, he called on the authorities to broadcast the court session live on state television.
Imamoglu is accused of creating a criminal organization, bribery, laundering the proceeds of crime, defrauding state institutions and organizations, as well as a number of crimes related to personal data, hiding evidence in criminal cases and collusion in tenders.
The charge calls for up to 2,352 years in prison.
