Britain has created a new military intelligence service because of the growing threats

The British government has announced the creation of a new military intelligence service, the Military Intelligence Services (MIS), in response to "growing hostile threats".

According to a statement from the Department of Defense, the new intelligence service "brings together for the first time all intelligence units and organizations of the Department of Defense into a single structure, including units of the Navy, Army and Air Force, which will accelerate the collection, analysis and sharing of information in the armed forces."

At the same time, the creation of the Ministry of Defense's new Defense Counterintelligence Unit (DCIU) was announced. The statement noted that over the past year, "hostile intelligence activity against the Department of Defense has increased by more than 50%."

Secretary of State John Healy said the new structures would make intelligence more efficient, putting the UK at the forefront of military innovation. The intelligence agencies were created in line with the recommendations of the June 2 Strategic Defense Review (SDR).

Military Intelligence brings together intelligence units from the Navy, Army, Air Force, Royal Space Command and the Permanent Joint Staff, "ensuring that they operate as a single system," Healy added.
