The bear named Nanar was transferred from the Tsaghkadzor restaurant to the Wild Animal Rescue Center

A grizzly bear named Nanar spent nearly 13 years of his life in inhumane captivity, and today he has become a living testimony of the mission of the Wildlife Rescue Center (WRC). In 2017, the animal was rescued from one of the restaurant complexes in Tsaghkadzor within the framework of the big bear rescue program of the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Values (FPWC). This was reported by the Fund for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Values. Nanar, who was born around 2003-2004, was imprisoned for more than 10 years in a narrow and concrete-walled cage in one of Tsaghkadzor's restaurant complexes. Deprived of its natural environment, as well as any professional veterinary or welfare care, for almost a decade and a half, the bear had suffered severe psychological consequences.

His repetitive stereotypic behavior (endless circling, swinging) was especially evident.

This behavior, according to FPWC experts, directly indicates the deep psychological trauma in the animal caused by the lack of necessary conditions and environment. The complex and long recovery process began at the wildlife rescue center.

At the WRC, Nanar has provided: Moved to a spacious, vegetated and hide-free enclosure, which also includes a pool to stimulate natural instincts. Receives an individualized feeding program and constant veterinary and behavioral monitoring.

Despite the heavy traces of the past, Nanar now gradually regains his composure and behaves close to nature, even hibernating.

"The story of Nanar is not only the rescue of the bear, but also a clear lesson that wild animals cannot be an object of entertainment. His recovery demonstrates the vital role of the rescue center in ensuring the long-term well-being of those who have been captured by humans," says FPWC Director Ruben Khachatryan.
