At least 15 people were killed in a gas explosion at a factory in Pakistan

At least 15 people were killed as a result of a gas explosion at a factory in the city of Faisalabad, located in the north-east of Pakistan, Geo TV reports, referring to the city authorities.

"Rescuers have so far pulled out 15 bodies from the rubble, and seven wounded have been taken to the hospital. There are fears that more people are buried under the rubble. The rescuers are busy cleaning the rubble. All the forces of the district police are involved in rescue operations," said Faisalabad Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar.

An explosion occurred at a glue factory in Faisalabad's Malikpur area around 5 a.m. on Friday, causing the building to collapse and nearby buildings to suffer heavy damage.

The official said that according to preliminary information, the explosion occurred in the factory due to the rupture of the gas pipeline. He added that those who died as a result of the explosion were mostly residents of houses near the factory.
