At least three people were killed and several others were injured as a result of the earthquake that occurred near Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, the local police reported.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), a magnitude 5.5 earthquake occurred 14 kilometers west-southwest of Narsingdi, Bangladesh at a depth of 10 kilometers at around 10:38 local time (7:38 Moscow time). Many residents of the capital ran out into the streets in panic.

"During the earthquake, the balustrade of the five-story building collapsed and fell," said Rafiqul Islam, head of Dhaka's Bangshal district police station.

He noted that three people died as a result of the incident: two pedestrians died on the spot, and the third died after being taken to the hospital.
