Zakharova stated that Moscow did not seek a confrontation with London

Moscow did not seek confrontational relations with London, had to respond accordingly to its actions and remains open to normalization of contacts, spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"We did not seek such confrontation and deterioration of relations. Russia simply responded accordingly, remaining open to settlement. However, London's strategists, whose "existence" needs pull them in the opposite direction, remain unprepared for this," he noted.

Earlier, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, commenting on the conversation with British Prime Minister Jonathan Powell, stated that the conversation was successful, but "uninteresting" because his interlocutor tried to outline the European position, rather than discuss any possible proposal.
