Oxfam. The wealth of G20 billionaires increased by $2.2 trillion in one year

The wealth of the Group of Twenty (G20) billionaires increased by 16.5% in one year, reaching $15.6 trillion, according to Oxfam, an international charity and humanitarian organization.

"The 2.2 trillion dollars in wealth created by the top 20 billionaires in just one year is enough to lift 3.8 billion people out of poverty," the organization's press release states. The document states that this would require $1.65 trillion annually.

The organization reminded that the government of South Africa, which this year chairs the G20, made the issue of inequality the main topic of the summit to be held on November 22-23.

South Africa commissioned a group of experts led by Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz to prepare a report on the matter. Economist believes the world is facing an "inequality emergency", writes Oxfam.
