NYT. The US has started a new round of informal negotiations with Venezuela

White House President Donald Trump has authorized a new round of informal talks with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to discuss Washington's access to Venezuelan oil, The New York Times reported, citing its sources.

According to their data, Maduro has announced his willingness to give American energy companies access to Venezuela's oil reserves. The newspaper claims that the White House intends to force the president of Venezuela to resign immediately.

According to the NYT, Trump has also approved additional pressure measures against Venezuela, and the CIA plans to conduct "covert operations" there in preparation for a broader military campaign.

The nature of the covert operations is not specified, but the publication suggests that they may include sabotage, cyber operations, psychological or informational influence.
