Kaya Callas, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the European Union, stated that the ability of the EU to put pressure on China for its position on the Ukrainian conflict is limited.
Speaking at a Bloomberg event on November 18, Callas explained that given its deep economic ties to the European Union, Beijing could "hurt" EU countries in response to sanctions.
"China is very smart in terms of increasing its geopolitical influence," he noted.
Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun stated that China is committed to ending the Ukrainian crisis and will play a constructive role in promoting its political settlement.
