Uzbekistan's ruling party holds a majority of seats in parliament

According to the results of the elections held on Sunday, the ruling Liberal-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (UzliDeP) received the majority of mandates in the legislative (lower) chamber of the parliament, TASS reports.

The elections were held for the first time with a mixed electoral system: majoritarian and proportional. 75 out of 150 deputies are elected from single-mandate constituencies based on the votes of those voting for specific candidates, the remaining 75 are elected by party.  All five parties registered in Uzbekistan entered the parliament.

According to CEC preliminary data, participation in the elections was 74.72%.
