Orbán announced that there will be no sanctions against Hungary as long as Trump is president

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is convinced that he received from US President Donald Trump a guarantee of the cancellation of US sanctions against oil and gas supplies from Russia for an indefinite period of time, rather than a time limit. The two leaders discussed this issue at a meeting held at the White House on November 7.

"President Trump and I shook hands, noting that Hungary will be freed from US oil sanctions forever. As long as he is the president and I am the prime minister, there will be no sanctions," the prime minister wrote on Facebook (which is banned in Russia, belongs to the "Meta" corporation, which is considered extremist in Russia).

Orbán made this statement because after his visit, unnamed officials of the US administration told Reuters that Hungary was exempted from sanctions on the supply of oil and gas from Russia for only one year.

The prime minister, as well as Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, who was present at the talks at the White House, denied the claim, noting that Trump had not set a deadline. At the same time, Szijjarto acknowledged that it is not yet known how US government agencies will document this decision.
