Low-income Americans have filed a lawsuit against US President Donald Trump's administration over the threat of losing their food stamps, Bloomberg reports.
In early November, the US Department of Agriculture announced that this month it would be able to provide only half of the funding needed for the Snack Food Assistance Program (SNAP), which provides food stamps to 42 million Americans.
"The Trump administration faces a new challenge in the standoff over food aid after federal funding cuts. A lawsuit has been filed by beneficiaries who claim that they are at risk of starvation," the publication said.
Bloomberg notes that the lawsuit filed in California refers to a federal law that requires US authorities to ensure that benefits are provided on time and in full, regardless of how Congress distributes the corresponding funds.
