The New York City Election Commission announced that for the first time in more than half a century, 2 million people voted in the New York city elections that will decide the new mayor.
"We officially announce that we have reached the 2 million vote mark for the first time since 1969," the commission said in a statement on X. The population of New York City is about 8.5 million. The participation in the previous mayoral elections of 2021 was 1.15 million people.
In addition to the mayoral election, New Yorkers were asked to vote for several city offices, including district attorney and city council member.
