New Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is ready to hold talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to resolve the issue of citizens kidnapped by North Korean intelligence in the 1970s. General Secretary of the Cabinet Minoru Kihara announced this at a regular press conference.
"Prime Minister Takaichi has expressed his determination to hold talks with President Kim Jong Un," he said. Earlier, Takaichi announced at an event dedicated to this issue that Tokyo has already informed Pyongyang of its willingness to hold a summit.
Commenting on his words, Kihara emphasized that the countries maintain ties through various diplomatic channels, but did not elaborate on how the DPRK conveyed the relevant message or what the response was, citing the sensitivity of diplomatic communications.
