The Czech army, which is formed on a professional basis, plans to recruit 2,250 contract servicemen by 2026, reports the "Irozhlas" news portal.
According to the portal, the need to increase the number of personnel in the national armed forces is related to threats to European security after February 24, 2022.
At the beginning of 2025, about 24,500 soldiers were serving in the armed forces. Another 3,500 in structural units of the Czech army. According to the report, ideally, the total number of servicemen would reach 37,500.
According to the Czech media, the planned increase in the personnel of the Czech army in 2026 will be one of the most significant in modern history.
