The civilian death toll in an October 26-27 attack by the Rapid Response Force (RRF) in El Fasher, Sudan, may be higher than the 2,000 estimated by the Darfur Joint Defense Force, Akhbar al-Asr reported, citing the Sudanese Medical Association.
According to medical experts, the inaccuracies in previously published assessments may be due to the chaos and the actions of the RSF itself, which seizes citizens' phones and prevents the media from disseminating information about the situation in El Fasher.
Yale University's Humanities Research Laboratory has promised to provide "compelling evidence" of the mass killings in the city, including satellite photos and videos.
El Fasher has been under siege by RSF for more than a year. According to the United Nations, at least 260,000 people are trapped there, half of them children, and are at risk of death from starvation, disease, and almost daily bombings and attacks.
