Damascus officially recognizes the sovereign state of Kosovo, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"Syria announces the official recognition of the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state, based on its commitment to the right of peoples to self-determination and the desire to strengthen the principles of peace and stability in the Balkans and the world," the statement said.
Earlier, on Wednesday, a meeting was held in Riyadh with the participation of representatives of the leadership of Syria, Saudi Arabia and Kosovo.
