Japan's prime minister has promised Trump to increase defense spending

The new Prime Minister of Japan, Sanae Takaichi, during the talks held in Tokyo on October 28, promised US President Donald Trump to strengthen his country's defense capabilities and increase defense spending, but specific numbers will not be discussed, TASS agency reports.

"I expressed to him my determination to take the initiative in strengthening our defense capabilities and increasing defense spending," Takaichi told reporters, stressing at the same time that no "specific numbers" were discussed during the talks.

The new head of the Japanese government also noted that they agreed with Trump to continue strengthening the Japan-American alliance, as well as promote cooperation with allied countries: South Korea, the Philippines, Australia and India.
