The Trump administration plans to resettle 7,000 white South Africans (Africans) by the end of the year, The Washington Post reported, citing White House sources.
The publication claims that within the framework of the review of the US refugee resettlement program, at least 7,000 of the maximum quotas of 7,500 people will be allocated to Africans who previously could not use the program.
So far, 400 white South Africans have entered the United States, but another 6,000 Africans may be resettled in the country as early as October or November. The rest of the seats, the newspaper continues, will be allocated either to English speakers or to those whose views on freedom of speech coincide with those of the American administration.
WP reminded that the refugee resettlement program was drastically reduced under Trump. In the last year of Joe Biden's presidency, the refugee limit was 125,000, and most of the places were given to people from Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
