The specialized criminal court of Banska Bystrica has sentenced 72-year-old Juraj Tsintula, who tried to kill Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in May 2024, to 21 years in prison, reports the correspondent of "RIA Novosti".
"The court makes a decision on sentencing to 21 years of imprisonment," Judge Igor Kralik read the verdict, deciding that Tsintula's crime was a terrorist act.
On May 15, 2024, Cintula shot Fico several times as he approached people gathered in front of the cultural center in the central part of Handlova, where a government meeting was taking place.
The police arrested the shooter at the scene. The trial began on July 8 in Banska Bystrica.
