The Artsakh National Assembly urges the European Union to take practical and direct measures

The statement of Gagik Baghunts, acting as the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh, regarding the resolution of the European Parliament of October 24:

"The National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh welcomes the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on October 24, 2024. The resolution "Regarding violations of human rights and international law in Azerbaijan and relations with Armenia", which is aimed at revealing the catastrophic situation of human rights in the territory of Azerbaijan, the degradation of international law and the aggressive approaches unleashed in the entire region, particularly towards Armenia.

We express our deep appreciation to the deputies of the European Parliament for their clear position aimed at restoring the rights of the people of Artsakh. It is important that the resolution emphasizes the need to implement the decisions of international courts, the need for direct dialogue with the representatives of the people of Artsakh, guaranteeing our safe and dignified return, the release of Armenian prisoners of war and political prisoners held in Azerbaijan, as well as the preservation of our property and cultural heritage.

The consolidated and safe return of the people of Artsakh to their homeland is of key importance for the establishment of lasting peace in the region, which is possible through direct Azerbaijani-Artsakh negotiations under international protection.

The National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh urges the European Union to take practical and direct measures that will ensure the protection of human rights in the region and respect for the fundamental rights of the people of Artsakh. For this purpose, it is important to introduce effective international mechanisms that will guarantee effective dialogue, collective return, safe and dignified life and proper realization of other fundamental rights.

October 25, 2024."
