Brazil and the United States begin preparations for the bilateral meeting of the presidents

Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held talks in Washington and agreed to start preparations for a bilateral meeting between Presidents Luis Inacio Lula da Silva and Donald Trump.

"The parties have agreed to work together to organize the meeting between President Trump and President Lula da Silva as soon as possible," the joint press release said. According to the Brazilian Diplomatic Press Service, the parties also intend to hold talks on strengthening cooperation in several areas in the near future.

In October, the leaders of Brazil and the United States had phone conversations, after which they agreed on a bilateral meeting. As CNN Brasil previously reported, Vieira and Rubio were also supposed to discuss the ongoing conflict between the United States and Venezuela during their meeting.

The TV channel noted that Brazil is ready to mediate the dispute between Washington and Caracas.
