Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Güler announced that his country supports diplomatic efforts to reach a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.
"During the meeting, we emphasized our support for Ukraine, both bilaterally and within NATO, as well as expressed our support for diplomatic efforts to establish a ceasefire and a peaceful settlement," the minister said in Brussels, where he attended a meeting of NATO defense ministers on October 15. The minister also noted "the importance of Turkey's full participation in the defense initiatives of the European Union, including the SAFE (formerly Rearmament EU) program to ensure the security of Europe."
Guler reminded that Turkey is one of the five largest countries contributing to the defense of NATO. He also reaffirmed Ankara's commitment to reach 5 percent of defense spending within NATO.
